Continuing Education Accreditation Program

Provide your input about a proposed accreditation program for continuing education (CE) courses and provider

Current Status

Consultation on the proposed CE Accreditation Program closed on December 31, 2021. The program was implemented in summer 2022 and more information can be found here.

What is this about?

The Insurance Council plans to introduce a CE accreditation program to create greater clarity about what courses qualify for credit towards licensees’ annual CE requirement.

BC insurance licensees are required to complete a minimum number of CE course credits annually. To be eligible for CE credits, courses must meet the technical content requirements outlined in the Insurance Council’s CE Guidelines. Currently, the onus is on licensees to assess the course content to ensure the course aligns with program requirements.

This program would accredit courses and course providers on a voluntary basis to identify courses that meet CE guideline requirements and are eligible for CE credit.

What’s happening?

We are looking for input on the proposed program, particularly from course providers of all types who might consider participating in the program.

  • Feedback will be collected through consultation until December 31, 2021.

  • Input gathered will help us refine the program and update key program documents.

  • In early 2022, the finalized program will be presented to the voting members of Council for review and possible approval.
